school holiday activity #3 - night away from home

School Holiday Activity #3 - Night away from home

This week we had the opportunity to spend a night at my sisters house in our state's capital city.

Last minute plans (in under two hours) were set to make the (usually!) three hour drive, leaving after lunch.  Now, my kids are not the best of travellers, so the trip took six hours with all our stops.  We stopped at a train playground, at a nature walk on top of a mountain range, for a spew and clothing change (my 2 year old... who knew he got car sick??), at a local pub for dinner and then arrived in Hobart at around 8pm.

The next day we played in an historic church ground, snacked on pastries from my favorite continental bakery in Battery Point, ran and played and picnicked at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, chose a special soft toy from a discount store, ate dinner at the historical town of Oatlands and finally got back home at around 8pm.

But I don't think it really mattered what we eventually did.  What mattered is that we went at the kids pace, stopping when they needed to and doing things they enjoyed.

And we all had a good time.
